With 4.5 million children in the UK living in poverty, we need to act now.

Beds have become a luxury item for hundreds of thousands of families, who face the devastating decision to pay for food and fuel, or to buy their child a bed.*

Bed poverty exists when a family doesn’t have the sleeping arrangements they need for their children due to a lack of financial resources.* For children in this situation, it has a significant impact on their education.

Zarach’s mission is to end child bed poverty, helping children get a good night’s sleep and the chance to thrive at school.

Deputy Head Teacher & Founder

Our Story

Beds have become a luxury item for hundreds of thousands of families, who face the devastating decision to pay for food and fuel, or to buy their child a bed.

Founded in 2017

In 2017, whilst teaching an 11-year old boy, I noticed he wasn’t his usual happy self so I asked if he was feeling tired. His response and that moment, not that I knew it at the time, were to change both my life and his. ‘Miss, I am always tired. I don’t have a bed.’

It’s official

We became an official charity with the charities commission.

Supporting families

250 beds delivered, and our team started to grow.

Progress

Our team worked through the pandemic to deliver food parcels to families in need.

Milestone

1,000 beds delivered.

Growth

We moved out of the storage containers we were using into a 16,000 sq ft warehouse.

Christmas Appeal

In our first national appeal, we reached over 500 children in December, our biggest delivery drive ever to this date.

10,000 beds delivered

As our team of supporters grew, we could reach more families than ever before.

Reaching further than ever

We hit another milestone of 15,000 beds delivered, and expanded further into the Tees Valley and South Yorkshire.

On a mission

We continue our work to end child bed poverty, helping children get a good night’s sleep and the chance to thrive at school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I give you my second-hand bed?

All items that we deliver to families are brand new. This is so that we can guarantee safety regulations, quality and longevity. Each bed should provide a child with at least 8 years of good sleep.

Can I donate bedding products?

Thank you so much for wanting to support the basic needs of the families we support. Due to the kindness of some incredible suppliers, we can often buy products at a discounted price. We’d love you to donate the money you might have spent on products directly to Zarach, then we can guarantee the impact of that donation will be doubled, sometimes even tripled and we can claim Gift Aid!

Can I volunteer?

We rely on the amazing dedication of volunteers in so many areas; in the warehouse, delivering beds, speaking out on our behalf, supporting families etc. If you are passionate about using your skills to end child bed poverty, please email volunteer@zarach.org
