Behind the scenes delivering bed bundles to children in need
Ever wondered what happens after you donate a bed to Zarach?
I’m Scott, part of the logistics team here at Zarach, a UK charity working to end child bed poverty. My role is all about turning donations into something very real: delivering bed bundles directly into children’s homes.
A bed bundle includes everything a child needs for a safe and comfortable night’s sleep, including a bed, mattress, bedding and essential sleep items. It’s the final step in a journey that starts with fundraising, donations, and the incredible support of our community.
Volunteering with Zarach
We’re incredibly fortunate to have such strong support from both regular and corporate volunteers. Volunteering with Zarach is a key part of how we deliver our mission to end child bed poverty, helping children get a good night’s sleep and the chance to thrive at school.
It is always such a great feeling when we open the Zed Shed door to a face that we have seen before: a corporate volunteer, who has chosen to come back out on the road with the logistics team. It is an even better feeling when they’ve brought a new face with them, having spread the positive word about what we do here at Zarach.
We often see corporate volunteering teams from businesses across the north and beyond joining us for delivery runs. It’s brilliant to see organisations choosing to support us in such a hands-on way.
Delivering bed bundles into family homes
Whilst out with the logistics team we aim to provide an informative and valuable experience, carefully balanced with some light hearted chats along the way to alleviate from what can be an emotional encounter with families. For many people, meeting families and seeing the reality of bed poverty first-hand can be difficult, as they realise the level of social injustice that exists in communities around them. It hits people just how close to home this issue is, and the level of need that still exists in communities across the UK.
Recently we have had volunteers from all walks of life come and experience this: business owners, directors, poets, and even a local MP. It is a testament to what we do as a team that our mission resonates so strongly with all of those who choose to engage with us, no matter their background.
The impact of your support
After all the work that goes on behind the scenes – from fundraising and partnerships to warehousing, logistics, and planning – it’s a real privilege to be the person who delivers the final piece: a bed for a child who needs it.
These are the moments where everything comes together. You see the relief from parents, the excitement from children, the high fives, the tears of joy, and even the occasional hug. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact that Zarach supporters make possible.
Every donation, every fundraising event, and every corporate volunteering day helps us deliver more bed bundles to children experiencing bed poverty.
