Life Without a Bed
Every child deserves to wake up rested and ready for the day ahead. But for Freya, that simple comfort was impossible.
After a bed bug infestation, Freya and her mum had to throw away all their beds, bedding and blankets. Her mum, Joanne, who works part-time, couldn’t afford to replace them. For months, Freya slept on the bare floor with just a couple of cushions for comfort. No bed frame, no mattress, no bedding, just the hard, cold floor.
The Impact on School and Daily Life
Most nights, she lay awake trying to get comfortable. When morning came, she woke up tired and achy, facing long school days without the rest she needed. Concentrating in lessons was hard. Joining in with friends was harder still. Poor sleep affects learning, mood, and overall wellbeing. For children like Freya, it’s more than just uncomfortable.
