Help Hope Grow This Spring

Published on: April 7, 2026

There’s something about spring that feels like a fresh start.

Lighter evenings. Warmer mornings. The sense that things are beginning again. We open windows, let the fresh air in, and look ahead with a little more optimism than we did in winter.

But for too many children, that fresh start doesn’t come.

Because while the seasons change, one thing hasn’t: across the UK, children are still going to sleep without a bed of their own.

You can help change that.

Start giving £12.50 today and in a year’s time you will have given a full bed bundle.

What children tell us about beds

Recently, we’ve been in schools chatting to children about their beds. What do they like about their beds? Is a bed important? Do they have a bedtime routine?

As THE Children’s Bed Charity – and with a lot of parents amongst us – we thought we had the answers to these questions. But the perspective and honesty of children really opened our eyes.

They didn’t just talk about their bed, but about the importance of beds for ALL children. They understood what the lack of a bed can mean:

“So people sometimes sleep on a desk because they didn’t get a good night’s sleep before, but nothing will be as comfy as a bed. A bed is the most crucial place for you to sleep.”

“A bed is important because it supports your back but if you sleep on the floor with no mattress your back will hurt when you wake up”

They talked about their bed itself, and what it means to them beyond just a good night’s sleep:

“It’s a great place to get lost in a book.”

“My bed is comfy and when I lay it in it makes me feel like I’m laying in the clouds.”

“I love my bed because it’s my space”

They talked about how a bed and a good night’s sleep impacted their days:

“It’s just really important because when you sleep you get the energy that you need.”

“My bed is important because it gets me energised and I can wake up feeling nice, warm, ready for school.”

They were insightful, empathetic, and honest.

Every child deserves to be able to talk honestly about the comfort of their bed. To have their own space to curl up with a book. To get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling energised.

A simple thing that can change everything

Something else became apparent when we spoke to these children: When they talk about beds, they’re not talking about furniture. They’re talking about how it feels.

And without a bed, those feelings are missing.

A bed changes that. It gives a child the rest they need to concentrate, the stability they need to feel secure, and the energy they need to grow.

“I love my bed”

One sentence came up again and again:

“I love my bed.”

It’s simple, but it says a lot.

For children without a bed, that feeling doesn’t exist.

Not yet…

You can plant the seed of hope today by donating £12.50 a month, and watch it grow into a full bed bundle by this time next year!
